Wagons roll as Paultons sells off Romany collection
By Katie Clark » Echo.
AUTHENTIC Romany wagons will be snapped up by buyers eager to get their hands on their own piece of gypsy culture as specialist pieces from a family theme park go under the hammer.
Family favourite Paultons Park is putting its entire Romany museum up for sale with pieces set to be bought in an intense bidding war on Wednesday, March 18.
Determined bidders will be able to tow their own gypsy carts home from the auction, which will also feature eight beautifully restored wagons, trolleys, animated models, collectables and bygones.
Waning popularity for the museum led to bosses making the decision to auction off the pieces.
Big rides such as the Edge and The Cobra have become the main attractions for thrill-seeking families.
Managing director Richard Mancey said: “The collection was built up in the late 1980s by my mother and father, Anna and John Mancey, and underwent a major refurbishment in 1995 when more wagons were added.
“It has not been an easy decision to sell the collection, but over the years, as Paultons has developed into a family theme park, we have seen the museum’s popularity wane.

The late author of "Romany Nevi-Wesh " Len Smith was the Culteral advisor of This unique collection and helped put it all to-gether and voiced many of the "Model's voices" Len also restored and painted the wonderful wagons. I for one will miss the Museum as me and my family have visted it many times over the last few years its a great loss and I just hope someone or some organization comes forward who can buy the complete Museum and keep it as such , otherwise a great piece of History will be lost forever. Pictured below are some scenes and Wagons from the Romany Collection.
