i found my g- granparents in the 1911 cencus living in a caravan in hogmoor lane bordon hampshire

they were nathaniel stacey and amelia nee rawlings/rawlins states they were hawkers.

also living along side them were Daniel and emma eyres, a John and Alice smith,

Rawben and Ella rawlins and william and mary chandler all stated as hawkers and living in Tent.

it says john smith born kent.

i know the nathaniel and amelia were living in a tent in the 1901 census in Alton

anyone with information on these family's i would love to hear from

Our Nan was 89 and very fit and healthy, we wasn't ready for her to leave us, but we will forever have our memories. She had hard and interesting life, which started in Edmunton, and went round kent, she was one of 7 children and she herself went on marry Belcher Lee and to have 6 children, she was a true Romany and we are proud to be able to call her Nan. Love her Kushti Dickin Granddaughters Rose and Joanne.

No expense spared, Nannie loved a funeral as much as a wedding, she loved being the centre of attention, she is having a True Romany send off with pride. Which is at All Saints Church, Nuxley Road, Belvedere on 15th May 2009 at 10.30am, then onto the buriel at Brook Street Cemetery and then after all her very large family and friends are celebrating her life at The Masonic Hall, West Hill, Dartford.

On behalf of Rayney we would like to say thank you to Romany Genes, it is nice to see photos, memories and to she that the heritage of the old Romanies lives on.

Marjorie barbara lumb married joe smith in the early 70s in weobley herefordshire. They moved about abit but came to live with some relations of joes in the early 80s. (Leominster area). They had 2 children to my knowledge. Sonia was born in north wales in the middle of the 70s and richard was born in the early 80s.

I am trying to trace any relatives I have and dont know where to go next as my father fell out with his dad for years and only resumed contact just before my grandfather died, My fathers family where George and winnie Bowers and came from Luggershall, They where on the road for almost all their year and travelled all across the country following the planting to harvesting trail. From November till february they camped on a small field owned by my great grandfather alfred edwin bowers who gave his name to my dad,When my nan was given a house by the council my grandfather found it impossible to settle and returned to the open road leaving my nan and seven kids behind, He then re married ( maybe ) and fathered a further 7 kids and 5 survived that I know of, I would love to hear from any of them as I am the only one of my family who was born to be a gypsy through and through, I have a constant need to be on the move and love all things animal , I have been so lucky to inherit ny grandads china collection and other special pieces he collected over his travels and before he died he spent many hours filling me in on his life and tales of times that will never come again (sadly)

My brother Carl Leroy Scamp just happened to stumble across this site. This is so exciting! My father, Norman Leroy Scamp (still living), always told us that our ancestors were pirates. Now, we found out that they were gypsies! I, Mary Ann Scamp, have that long English face. We seem to have had bad luck all our lives and wondered if another Scamp out there has experienced that as well, and was it a curse or something our ancestors had done to cause the many generations of "bad luck"? For anyone heavily involved in family tree work, I have found a family of unnamed gypsies in Quedgley, Gloucs in 1881. Mother and father and children, ages given but no birth places. Tap gypsy into the census search engine for 1881 where you'd normally enter the first and last names.

Me personally, Im still interested in the Roberts, Elliott, Bexcell/Bexsell and Egerton families.

I have been on your website before and discovered some of my Romany ancestry.

Just to let you know, my mum, who has written a book about her life as a Romany growing up in Somerset around the 2nd world war, has entered a TV competition called The People's Author. She has won her heat and is one of only four finalists. The Grand Final is on Monday 23rd November (next Monday) at 3pm on ITV 1. The Winner will have their book published in April next year. She mentions several gypsy family names in her book such as BAILEY, SMITH, LOVERIDGE AND BOSWELL

The TV show is the Alan Titchmarsh show and she will be appearing on the Live show on Monday.

The fourth finalist will be chosen by the judges on today's show at 3pm ITV 1. There aren't many (if any) books about that have actually been written by a true Romany so this might be one of only a few giving a real insight into gypsy life and redressing the bad press real Romanies get.
